Basic SEO Guide In A Nutshell

1.) Start by finding out what keywords people use to find your website and use them in your content and ad copy.

Then pick a page, say your home page. Pick the beset keyword that describes your page. Lets use: Lorem ipsum. That Keyword density in your on page copy should be 1-2%, meaning that the (1) single primary keyword should appear once or twice every 100 words.

In vulputate, odio a tempor facilisis, libero massa interdum tortor, euismod semper est.

2.) A minimum 70 characters on page, plus matching the keyword, is fully acceptable.

Minimalism is ok. Copywriters might get paid by the word, but sometimes less is more, and the minimalist style is the current design trend amongst developers at the moment. No, you don’t need novels of copy for the SEO ranking algorithm to work. However, you do need to support the meta SEO description, so it’s suggested to use at least 70 to 300 characters if you can.

Also, it always good to remember  that SEO is more than great copy on a page. You still need to make sure your images are tagged, your h1 through h6 tags are properly used, as well as your accessibility markers in place. You can always try using a “read more” toggle to reveal additional copy to keep you main statements short and on point. Remember, sites with a combination of both high backlinks and high domain authority can rank #1 with literally no on page copy.

3.) The maximum for the on page meta description is 155 characters.

This is your search snippet copy that appears in a search result. It should be short and to the point and reflect exactly what your page is about. Yoast and many other SEO plugins are great for configuring this because they give you a visual indicator of how close you’ve matched your chosen keyword with free readability and SEO analysis tools.

5.) Optimize you website.

The simplest thing is sometimes over-looked. Simply “optimize everything” to improve your SEO ranking. Optimize your caching at the software and server level, increase ram for better processer response time, compress your images and media files, always use properly formatted modern code, and defer those large ugly JavaScript and CSS files. I also suggest using more than Googles PageSpeed insights to check for on page speed. Google is the Galactic Empire and only cares about Google, not Bing, Yahoo, or any other browsers like Safari, Edge or FireFox.
