I learned the terminal, how to code, write internal company apps, write games and a whole slew of other things in the first few years of OSX. Most of what I could do then, I can’t do now, because Apple has locked their machines down, made the process impossible, or put things behind a developer account pay-to-play paywall.
Now macOS 15.1, requires the complete disabling of “Gatekeeper”, the system which verifies downloads to run non-signed applications, just to write your own unsigned apps. (There are tons of real-world cases for unsigned software). Remember, Apple hates you and thinks you’re stupid. With that, “sideloading” unsigned macOS software is now completely disabled.
Not event the right-click trick to run apps works now.
And signing software, of course, requires an Apple Developer Connection subscription. Which, for most people, is just too costly. Looks, like users are probably gonna have to rely on the European Union to remedy this.
In the mean time, this still works. Open your terminal, paste this command, enter your password, and you’re back in business.
sudo spctl --master-disable
